Description

Drift king, Aussie legend, and friend of MTB Direct, Chris Kovarik has been developing a fantastic new way to keep your bike as quiet as can be while increasing the life of your chain.

Who's this for: Riders looking to keep their rig running quietly. You don't know just how loud even the best factory chainstay protectors are until you've tried one of these.

Construction: Silicone rubber for the DH units and ABS inner with TPU over mould for the TRAIL units.
These have been tested extensively by Kovarik and many others in order to get the best fit for the most bikes, and for different cassette sizes.

Materials: Silicone rubber for the DH units and ABS inner with TPU over mould for the TRAIL units to allow the device to absorb all the sound and energy from the chain slapping into it. STFU takes the hit so your frame doesn't have to.

Note - comes with 2 pieces that are adjustable to fit most chainstays.
It is advised that 5-6mm wide zip ties are used for the installation. Thinner zip ties will not be as effective.

Pros: Keeps your bike quiet, reduces side to side chain movement, which also reduces wear and prolongs chain life.

Available in an option to suit most bikes:

  • DH-10: DH gearing with 10+ speeds, max 32t cassette
  • DH-07: DH gearing with 7 speeds, max 26t cassette
  • Enduro-Trail: 1x drivetrains with max 52t cassette

Cons: Looks a bit funny

    Broke it on first ride

Very hard to set up on my bike. (Scott Genius). The chainstay has only a couple of mm clearance from the crank with a crank boot making the placement of the front protecter impossible as the bottom sticks out and is caught in every pedal rotation.

Mounting the front further back meant that the chain would rub, as I had an absolute black oval chainring which makes the placement of the front even harder. The horst linkage puts the chainstay a bit lower than other frame designs meaning the device stood high making it prone to rotation from any knocks. I would think you would need more than 1cm clearance of crank to chainstay for this to be viable.

All this pushed the rear setup further back which got pushed into the wheel on landing a jump snapping the spine of this device and rending it useless. Make sure you take a multi link breaker and a knife to cut the zip ties on your first couple of rides so you can pull this off if it doesn't work for you. Also dump the air out of your rear shock and go through the complete range of travel with it installed to make sure it doesn't get pushed in.

    Works okay

Look, trying to quieten (not sure if thats a word), a min-max drivetrain transferred to a new frame. It is a bit of a faff to fit, and subsequently Ive only put one on so far. I think its helping. I will see how it goes.

    Stfu

Didnt notice much of a difference of chain slap noise only worked when I got it in the absolute perfect position. Also got caught in my spokes a few times and finally gave in after 5 months of riding and ended up not being able to use because it had been stretched and wouldnt take any impact without going into my spokes

No noticeable difference in noise, broke after few rides

Thought I'd try this as I'm a fan of quiet bikes. Pretty easy to install although I was doubtful if would stay in the right spot for long. I honestly couldn't notice any huge difference if chain noise over standard chainstay protector. I was right to doubt it would stay put as it came loose and got pulled into the spokes on a decent. I had to destroy it to remove it so I could keep riding. I wasn't upset. It was a waste of money.
