Description

Dropper posts are a no-brainer for all mountain and trail bikes. But even XC, gravel, and commuter bikes can definitely benefit from them! Especially this one, with it's game changing, built in suspension.
'But MTB Direct, isn't that just saggy post syndrome?'
No, it's not, it is oil damped and air sprung contolled suspension, fantastic for long rides on rigid bikes out on rugged mountain paths, XC trails, or even potholed footpaths on the way to work. It really helps to take the sting out.

Who's it for: XC, gravel, bikepacking, or commuting riders, or really anyone after a bit less pain in the rear.

Actuation style: Cable actuated with an adjustable air spring.

Travel adjustment: There is 40mm of suspension travel, and 120mm (100mm for 27.2mm) of drop travel. The drop travel is infinitely adjustable.

Routing: Both internal and external routing is available.

Lever included: There is no lever for this post.

Saddle clamp: Standard rail mount with 2 bolts.

Stand out features: The 40mm of suspension is definitely a stand out here!

Pros: Suspension is great for rough rides.

Cons: Might feel really weird on suspension bikes with a bit of pedal bob.

Way better than I was expecting!

I read a few reviews that highlighted the suspension flaws. The best advice was this is a dropper post first suspension is second.

As a dropper it is fantastic I run it on a gravel bike with the left brifter used to action the drop.

I am able to run a higher seat height. Then drop to a flat footed height when stopping. Really handy for my commute waiting at traffic lights. I can get a lot more power into the pedals with the higher seat height.

The suspension has taken a bit to get the pressure right. The original out of the box pressure was too low for my weight (95kg) so was very squishy. I added what I thought would be right 290psi. That too was rather soft I now have it running 300 and that is almost perfect. Big hits and fast corrugating are handled. I can spend the day in the saddle now no problems.

    Tool for the job

I've had a lot of dropper posts in my time and am more recently used to longer travel posts between 170mm and 210mm. However, when it came for choosing a dropper for a hardtail build for a bit of XC use and some bike packing, the inbuilt suspension and the short travel of this post caught my eye. Having run it for a month now, I believe that this post is a real game changer. It takes the sting out of bumpy trail while seated which makes longer rides far more comfortable. My lower back used to complain on long rides on the hardtail but, with this, no longer! The travel is ample for most XC purposes. I've not noticed any unwanted play/slop. The post return is slightly slower than my OneUp and Reverb but it's fine for this purpose. Definitely recommend!

    A smoother ride

The dropper action definitely takes some getting used to compared to units without secondary suspension, and boy is the suspension stiff out the box - after w couple rides and messing around with the PSI I am incredibly content. Not perfect, but for the price it comes real close.
