Description

The Yakima Holdup EVO 2 Hitch Bike Platform Rack - 2 Bike can be summarized in 5 words. Fast - Secure - Easy to use. It's been specifically built to handle the latest batch of new bike standards like fat tyres, boost hubs and long wheel bases. Don't worry, it will still carry road, hybrid, women’s specific, BMX, and kids’ bikes too.

Who's this item for: People who want a hitch style bike rack that can carry two modern geometry bikes (without frame contact). With the potential to be upgraded to carry four bikes.

How many bikes does it carry: Two, with the option to upgrade to carry four.

How does it carry them: The Yakima Holdup Evo 2 holds the bikes into wheel trays via their StrongArm hooks and straps. This style of bike rack does not touch the bike frame at all and thus protects painted surfaces and carbon frames. It also has easy to adjust trays to reduce bike-to-bike interference.

How much weight can it carry: The Holdup Evo 2 can carry 46kg in total or better defined as 23kg per bike space.

E-Bike rated: Absolutely. As long as your E-bike weighs less than 23kg you are fine to use this rack.

How does it mount to the car: It mounts to the car via a 50mm hitch. The rack features the tool-free locking SpeedKnob™ which makes installation and removal fast, easy and secure.

Does it tilt or swing to gain access to the vehicle: Yes. Featuring the new easy-access tilt mechanism with the KickStart™ foot pedal. Raising and lowering the rack a breeze, even when loaded with bikes.

What size bikes (wheel base) can it carry: The rack with carry 20" to 29" wheel sizes and tyres up to 4.8" wide. The maximum wheel base it will accomodate is 1219mm.

How much does it weigh / dimensions: The rack weighs 23kg. No dimensions are currently available.

Does it fold up for storage: The rack does fold up while on the vehicle to reduce its footprint.

Does it include a lock: Yes. The Holdup Evo 2 includes an arm cable lock (81cm long) and has integrated SKS (Same Key System) locks located in the SpeedKnob™ and arm cable lock.

Does it have an integrated licence plate holder / brake / reverse lights: No.

Optional extras: Want to carry 4 bikes? Add the Yakima Holdup EVO 2 - Plus 2 Bike Rack Extension (total allowable load for 4 bikes is 72 kg).

Pros: Integrated bottle opener! The ability to grow and carry more bikes. Secure bike carrying without touching the frame. Tiltable, good weight capacity.

Cons: An integrated light bar and licence plate holder would be nice.

Sturdy, easy to use, but concerns about secure attachment & longevity

Sturdy, easy to use, but concerns about secure attachment, locking mechanism, and longevity of locking mechanism - needs improvement. Video review on youtube: "Yakima HoldUp Evo 2 bike rack review: locking mechanism + issues".

Compact, simple and a really great bike rack

This is brilliant. I have had a Thule Euroway 3 and often I am worried about how securely it holds the bike. This is so simple and safe and I can leave it on the car as it folds up really nicely. Yakima quotes that it has a 800mm cable to secure the bike, it is nowhere near it. It is under 700mm so you cannot get it through the frame - only through the forks. Mine came without the grey endcap with the bottle opener. Not MTBDirect's fault, so I wrote to Yakima and they responded saying that it is in the post. With COVID delays I expect it in 2024. You cannot go wrong with this unit. Happy Trails.
