Description

At Hope they produce products for the true riders - this means developing the best components, not only for the extremes of Downhill or Enduro, but also for the punishing environment of XC racing. Here, balancing strength, weight and performance is key, and they have now applied all their years of expertise into the clipless pedal.

    Best of both worlds!!

    Love these pedals. Best bits of CB mallets and Shimano SPD smooshed into one!

    Have been riding SPD for a few years trail/enduro, on a Stumpy Evo. I went through a period of test-riding friends’ borrowed pedals a while back just as an experiment. These were my take-aways:

    CB Mallets: loved the platform and pins giving such a firm and supportive feel underfoot and the locked in feeling when you put weight onto the pins - all while still having some float when unweighted. However I didn’t like the vague clip mechanism. Compared to SPD I found them too hard to know whether I was actually clipped in sometimes and would find myself fiddling to get in. This was better with pins wound down but then I lost the supportive feeling.

    The Shimano saints have the SPD I preferred but the platform and pins are completely useless. My shoe didn’t touch them enough to make any difference. (Wearing CB mallet clip shoes). This is apparently the issue with every platform style pedal that uses SPD- the mechanism needs high clearance.

    So I stuck with my SPD trail pedals (old M530s) but noticed the constant float so much more after the Mallets. However, to me the reliable SPD click was more important.

    Enter the Hopes! Having had my bike stolen and having a little extra insurance money thanks to the bike sales I was able to splash out on these and was not disappointed.

    -The mechanism feels even nicer than the SPDs, a springy feel to the release.
